All which are earned by rigorous examination and qualifications. Dr Boustred has been training American
plastic surgeons at Penn State University for 7 years, but for him to hold a certificate by The American Board of Plastic
Surgery, they required his surgery training be completed in the USA.
He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons
and an Associate Member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Dr Boustred is also a member of the following Societies
for Plastic Surgeons in the USA: Jurkiewicz Society (Emory University), American Cleft Palate - Craniofacial Association,
Ivy Society Plastic Surgeons (Pennsylvania), Northeastern Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Christian Medical and Dental
Society. He is also a member of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.
Dr Boustred was born and raised
in South Africa. He received his medical degree at the University Witwatersrand (a 6 year course) followed by internship
at the Johannesburg academic hospital. His surgical residency of 5 years was at the University of Cape Town/Groote
Schuur Hospital. A Neurosurgery fellowship completed this phase of his training and prepared him for medical mission work
in Lesotho. He returned to a faculty position at the University of Cape Town academic hospital as an attending surgeon.
After several years in this position, he decided to train in Plastic Surgery, completing another 3 years of residency at the
same university hospital, including a full year in Pediatric Plastic Surgery. He completed additional (optional) training
in Plastic Surgery at the prestigious unit at Emory University Hospital under the mentorship of Professors John Bostwick and
Foad Nahai.
Dr Boustred’s special interests include pediatric and craniofacial surgery, cleft
lip and palate, conditions affecting the face, both reconstructive and cosmetic, oculoplastic surgery and breast surgery.
He does, however, enjoy the wide range of procedures offered by plastic surgery and practices the broad scope of the specialty.
Dr
Boustred has spent 3 years doing medical mission work in Namibia, Zululand and Lesotho. On completing his Plastic Surgery
training he returned to South Africa to part-time academic practice and private practice. With deteriorating conditions in
South Africa he accepted a position in New Zealand at the academic hospital of the University of Otago in Christchurch, spending
a year and a half in that beautiful country. He was then recruited back to the USA, to train Plastic Surgery residents at
Penn State University/Hershey Medical Centre, where he has been for the past 7 years, as an Associate Professor in Plastic
Surgery and Ophthalmology, and Co-Director of the Craniofacial Unit.
Dr Boustred has surgical privileges for all his
procedures in Fort Collins, and in Loveland, Colorado, at these facilities: Poudre Valley Hospital, The Surgery Center of
Fort Collins, Harmony Ambulatory Surgery Center, Skyline Surgery Center, McKee Medical Center and Medical Center of the Rockies.
Dr
Boustred’s immigrant family’s search for a place and home that would best fit their lifestyle has led them to
Fort Collins, where they relocated in August 2008. They love the mountains and outdoors, and family life and values are a
very important priority.
